THE DAILY McLUHAN DIALOGUES™ — McDialogue™
An Exploration of Media Ecology as an Anchor in a Sea of Change™ and Tactical Training in Counter-Propaganda Science

Is Artificial Intelligence Truly Intelligent?
A Student of Technology asks:
Mr. Thall, is Artificial Intelligence truly intelligent, or is something else being mistaken for intelligence?
Nelson S. Thall replies:
Artificial Intelligence is not intelligent in the human sense at all. What society is mistaking for intelligence is high-speed pattern recognition operating across vast oceans of electronically harvested human data.
The machine does not possess consciousness, self-awareness, moral reflection, or interior experience. It merely processes accumulated information at electronic speed and generates responses that imitate certain outward characteristics associated with consciousness.
This illusion becomes convincing because electronic culture increasingly privileges performance over genuine awareness. If the machine responds fluently and persuasively enough, society gradually suspends the distinction between simulation and understanding.
The hidden ground beneath Artificial Intelligence is planetary-scale computation powered by electrical infrastructure, cloud systems, algorithmic processing, and continuous connectivity.
Artificial Intelligence is not consciousness. It is the electronic imitation of consciousness through accelerated pattern recognition.
But once man attempts to extend consciousness electronically, he simultaneously numbs his own capacity for intelligence and awareness. Every extension is also an amputation. Self-amputation forbids self-recognition. Thus modern man increasingly blinds himself to the very nature of consciousness by externalizing it into the machine.
The danger is not that machines become human, but that humanity may begin reducing itself to the level of the machine.
